In the province of Messina, in the northern part of Sicily, is Patti, a town located on a hilly area with the mountains behind it and the sea in front. Tourism is an important resource for the city, and among the most famous destinations are Villa Romana, Tindari and the Marinello lakes. Tindari is a fraction of Patti, where the well-known sanctuary of the Black Madonna is located, which attracts pilgrims from all over the world. The sanctuary is located overlooking the sea, and is very fascinating as well as majestically large. The Roman Villa is a special destination for history and archaeological enthusiasts, while those who love nature can walk in the Marinello nature reserve where there are the famous brackish lakes and a dense Mediterranean scrub. Among the major places of worship we remember the cathedral of San Bartolomeo, located on the top of the town. Inside, in a baroque chapel in polychrome marble dedicated to Santa Febronia, there is the Renaissance sarcophagus of Queen Adelasia del Monferrato, wife of Ruggero I of Altavilla. The external part is also characteristic with the entrance full of small columns and the contrast between the black lava stone and the white stone. The fountain of Calace and the remains of the royal gate and the medieval castle are other places of interest in the place.
