(Angri)
Genre: events    culture   wine and food

Angri is a Campania town in the province of Salerno; it rises 32 meters above sea level and has 34,000 inhabitants. The visit can start from the Doria palace and castle, interesting buildings connected to each other. The building also enjoys well-kept and elegant gardens, ideal for a relaxing stop. Moving to the historic center you can admire the remarkable facade and the rose window of the collegiate church of San Giovanni Battista, patron saint of the city, and the adjacent clock tower. Borgo Ardinghi is the oldest district of Angri, full of characteristic alleys and paved courtyards. Here is the church of San Benedetto with a fine facade. Angri is known for its tomatoes and food preserves, the real driving force of the local economy; in fact, numerous sectoral factories have sprung up in the area. There are many historical noble palaces scattered around Angri, many in Renaissance-Baroque style, some with valuable 15th century Catalan style portals. Angri also boasts a historic palio organized annually. Finally, the chapel of San Giuda Taddeo is worth a visit.
