The village has very ancient origins and tightens around the Ducal Castle. A lot of music can be heard walking along the streets, the rhythm of the sculptor's chisel, the church bells or the weaving of the loom. A patient country since the Middle Ages, of which it still retains the structure, it has endured several dominations. It was the Emperor Frederick II who expanded the fortress in 1250 on the pre-existing Norman castle. He used it as a prison and from the high ramparts no one ever managed to escape. Here, between the arcades and overlooking the courtyard, there are the rooms of the Museum where we can know the traces of the settlements dating back to the 9th century. C. like the funerary objects and artifacts of the princess of Bisaccia belonging to the olive grove-cairano ethnic group. We also read that the castle housed the Sicilian school of poetry and we imagine the inspirations evoked by the wonderful wooded and silent natural environment. Of non-agricultural tradition but of breeding, Bisaccia produced fabrics and carpets, an art still practiced in some workshops, perched near the castle.
