The beauties of the Orta Valley

(Valle dell'Orta)
Genre: nature

Among the mountains of Pescara, one of the most fascinating itineraries is certainly the one that passes through the Orta Valley. These territories are to be framed in the former regional reserve of the same name, now part of the largest Majella National Park. The trekking routes are characterized by the green vegetation typical of Abruzzo, with the further brush touch of the Orta river, which has carved furrows and canyons in the mountains. The valley hosts some sites of archaeological interest, such as the Cave of the Pigeons, used in prehistoric times as a place of worship. Along the G6 path you can find the Callarelli Cave, another cave used in ancient times as a bivouac and pastoral shelter. In addition to these caves (to which we would like to add the beautiful Grotta Oscura and Grotta del Mortaio), you can add the admirable scenic beauty along the panoramic path of the Cisterna. This itinerary allows you to observe the Cisterna Waterfall, with the limpid body of water generated by it. Valle d'Orta is synonymous with biodiversity: the encounter between the sub-Mediterranean climate and the deep cracks in the ground have given way to a large range of plant species. The flora is dominated by the Mediterranean machine; we find blackthorns, holm oaks, phyllireae and alaterni. The walls of the crevasses house the nests of a large number of wonderful birds of prey such as kestrels, lodolai and buzzards.
