The smallest theater in the world of Monte Castello di Vibio

Where: monte-castello-di-vibio
(Monte Castello di Vibio)
Genre: culture

Monte Castello di Vibio preserves a small jewel, and today visitors from all over the world flock to visit it. It is a very small theater, so much so that it has the reputation of being the smallest in the world. Its small size is linked to the fact that it was wanted by 9 noble families of the place, and was for their exclusive use and consumption. There are in fact 7 columns, above which are the boxes, which were used by these families. The theater, called Teatro della Concordia in honor of the work carried out at the time by Napoleon, was built at the beginning of the nineteenth century and it took a century for the common people to set foot there. Throughout the first half of the twentieth century it was lived intensely by the inhabitants of Monte Castello di Vibio, only to be abandoned and fell into a state of decay and neglect for almost 42 years. Then, in the 1980s, Umbria was the first Italian region to decide to restore its historic theaters, 18 in all, including the Teatro della Concordia. Since 1994, the Teatro della Concordia Society has been managing the structure, organizing guided tours defined as 'emotional'.
