The beauties of Ortisei

Where: ortisei/st.-ulrich
(Ortisei)
Genre: culture

Ontisei is a town of about 5000 inhabitants in the province of Bolzano and one of the most important towns in Val Gardena. Also called St. Ulrich, the town attracts many visitors every year for the many natural beauties present in its territory. The town is also well cared for and dotted with curious wooden statues. Among the most important buildings in Ortisei we find the small church of San Giacomo dating back to 1200 and considered the oldest in Val Gardena. Nature lovers after a nice hike in the woods can refresh themselves in the well-known Caffè Sant'Anna. In the nearby village of Bulla instead there is a characteristic church surrounded by a small cemetery. In the historic center, on the other hand, there are the small church of Sant'Antonio and the Church of Sant'Ulrico named after the patron saint of the town. Recommended is the walk along the Via Rezia where there are interesting nineteenth-century buildings and characteristic hotels. Taking the funicular you can easily reach Mount Rasciesa where there is a magnificent refuge around which animals graze in complete freedom. From here you can enjoy a magnificent view of the surrounding area. The landscape of Monte Seceda is also very beautiful, where you can eat traditional dishes from this area. No less wonderful are the Alpe di Siusi and Monte Seura with their unspoiled nature. Finally, returning to the historic center, you can visit the various shops that sell local handicrafts, souvenirs and typical products such as speck and cheeses.
