Tenno: medieval history and spectacular nature, what to see in the area

Where: tenno
(Tenno)
Genre: culture   nature

Tenno is a medieval town in Trentino not far from Lake Garda. Its peculiarity is the subdivision into many small hamlets, each with its own characteristics, of which Tenno is the main nucleus. The symbol of the small town is the castle which offers a beautiful view of Lake Garda. Dating back to the 11th century, it has undergone several renovations and is now private property. Frapporta is one of the hamlets in which the Dosso di Grom is located where the church of San Lorenzo stands, an example of the Romanesque style of the twelfth century. Another very suggestive hamlet is Canale, a perfectly preserved medieval-style village with only 40 inhabitants. Today it is mainly occupied by artisans with houses and shops, in particular vasari. Inside the village there is the 'house of the artists' named after the painter Giacomo Vittone. It is a house museum where there is a permanent exhibition, courses and workshops are held and where artists can come in search of inspiration. Also in Canale every year in August an event takes place, Rustico medioevo, which is a historical re-enactment of the time. Another very suggestive place, this time natural, is Lake Tenno, considered the cleanest alpine lake in Italy. It is possible to swim, or enjoy a walk and many other activities. The glance is also unique thanks to a small island in the center of the lake that originated from a landslide. Below the lake there are the remains of a forest and if the drought reaches critical levels and the water subsides it is possible to see another islet called 'the island of 86'. To the south of tenno there is the natural park of Varone, which runs around the waterfalls formed by the Magnone stream. The waterfalls can be seen from below and from above with a very suggestive path in the rock.
