Monterotondo Marittimo is a small Tuscan town located in the heart of the Colline Metallifere National Park. A place full of greenery and geothermal phenomena that attracts many visitors every year. Especially since the town is halfway between the sea and the mountains, for a complete holiday. Among the most fascinating buildings, the ruins of the Castle of Cugnano, dating back to the eighth century, are worth a visit, immersed in the luxuriant nature of a wood, in a strategic place for the mining of which these hills are rich. Extractive tradition typical of the municipality, as can be seen from the remains of an 'allumiera' story, that is an alum quarry located in the MonteLeo area, one of the few still visible in some way. The pride of the archaeological remains of the area are the ruins of the Rocca degli Alberti, located not far from the historic center of the town, and preserved to allow a careful visit by tourists. The life of Roberto Fucini, a nineteenth-century poet and writer, is linked to the ancient village of Monterotondo. At 'La porta del Parco', that is the information center, there is an ancient oil mill as evidence of the processing of cereals, and some information points of the various attractions of the city. The main place of worship is the seventeenth-century church of San Lorenzo in the historic center, but there are two places of worship not far away, the destination of many pilgrimages: the church of Santa Croce, completely surrounded by greenery, and the Sanctuary of the Madonna di Frassine which houses the statue of the saint still standing on the ash trunk on which it was found centuries ago in the woods.
