The many faces of the land of Roero

(Roero)
Genre: wine and food

Roero is a territory that includes 25 municipalities, extends for 420 square kilometers and has about 75,000 inhabitants. This territory is characterized by the presence of many towers and castles, which testify to a noble and ancient past. Today it is known above all for the many typical products of the area, which come from a strong agricultural and winemaking tradition. In the Roero, Canale peaches, strawberries and Madernassa pears are grown, which lend themselves well to cooking. Hazelnuts and chestnuts are excellent, not to mention the truffle. But the food and wine of the area is also aquatic: known and appreciated is the tench of Ceresole, which is cooked fried or in sweet and sour carpione. To accompany many tasty things there are wines, both red and white, excellent both when young and after aging. If the Roero is characterized by castles, there is also another type of construction that is part of its history. This is the ciabòt, once used as a shelter for tools and today recovered for its historical and cultural value, but also for creative reuse, for example as a tasting room.
