A walk in Lucignano

Where: lucignano
(Lucignano)
Genre: events    culture   wine and food   folklore

Lucinianum was founded and fortified by the Romans. The intact walls defend it as they did then but for opposite reasons its doors are open to those who like to visit it. Walking through the alleys, under the arches and the small courtyards, we arrive at the square of the fourteenth-century Church of San Francesco. Here we admire the canvas 'The Triumph of Death' and an unusual golden reliquary known as the Tree of Life. Its twelve golden branches are the symbol of the apostles and the coral points the blood of Jesus. The top of the golden tree is represented by the crucifix of excellent finishing. Also worth a visit is the Church of Santissima Madonna della Querce, built in 1467, with the paintings by Rosselli depicting the saints, such as San Benedetto. There is still time to relax in the historic atmosphere that surrounds the village, so we decide to go out of town, to the Castle, a beautiful fourteenth-century building with two circular towers. We are ready to taste the excellent local risotto with mushrooms and cheek.
