The hens of the Valle dei Laghi

In the Valle dei Laghi there is a very particular agricultural enterprise, where a new way of raising laying hens is experimented with. The breeding is organic, insofar as the hens are given only organic feed. The sustainability of the company, however, is guaranteed by the fact that the farming activity is accompanied by the cultivation of vegetable gardens. The waste from horticulture is in turn used to feed the hens. Another peculiarity of this company is that the hens are allowed not only to graze freely, but also to venture into the nearby wood where they find an even more complete type of diet. The well-being of these animals is evident from the crest, red and robust, and from the beak. The beak in fact becomes a problem only if the space that the hens share is very narrow; vice versa here each has 4 square meters available. The hens are divided into 3 groups: each group has its own hen house and they spontaneously return to their own hen house, following the dominant hens.
