Visit to Palazzo Furietti Carrara di Presezzo: history and art at your fingertips

Where: presezzo
(Palazzo Furietti Carrara di Presezzo)
Genre: culture

On the edge of the town of Presezzo, built in the seventeenth century, stands the Palazzo Furietti Carrara, a place of great interest in the Bergamo town. The current architectural physiognomy is of neoclassical inspiration operated by Nicolino da Calepio. The Furietti, merchants residing in Bergamo, bought the land where the building was built, while only in 700 did the property pass to the Carrara family, who would proceed with the renovation. The ground floor still retains the Renaissance style, while the upper noble floor is of an eighteenth-century style overlooking the internal courtyard. The palace attracts tourists and art lovers for an important cycle of frescoes that it houses, attributed to Giovan Paolo Cavagna and dating back to the 16th century. Unfortunately, the state of conservation is not optimal, also because at the behest of the Carraras they were torn from the wall support, in the when they sold the property to the municipality. Destiny that fortunately did not interest the frescoes that decorate the ground floor porch depicting the seasons and other subjects. From the portico you reach the hall with frescoes dedicated to the figure of Hercules, while in another room the masonry works depict some biblical heroines and the god Apollo on the chariot of the sun.
