Things to do in Italy > Po Delta

From the Mesola Castle to the Ca mello oasis

(delta del Po)
Genre: culture   nature   wine and food   fun   useful information

With the wonderful background of the Mesola Castle, the pedaling begins along the shores and peninsulas of the Po delta. The imposing building was built by the Este family who used it both as a noble residence and as a fortress. Home to a museum, it is possible to walk through its halls and immerse yourself in the splendor of the historical period. The route runs along beaches and brackish ponds where elegant flamingos and storks rest, looking for small prey among the reeds. It is recommended to go there in spring or autumn when you can fully admire the foliage of the trees that surround it or the colors of the shores painted by the patches of lagoon plants. You pass Torre Abate, a wonderful building that jumps with the vaults on the water to prevent the outflow of one or the reflux of the other, in an acrobatic effect of salt filters. Bridges lying on boats swing at the passage that becomes adventurous between the lighthouse of the island of love and the lavender fields of the Ca Mello oasis. The quays of the silent and romantic scordove fishermen await us on the still waters of the lagoon and the lavender fields also await the warm season to wrap the bell of Porto Tolle in purple.
