The re-enactments of Sommatino

Where: sommatino
(Sommatino)
Genre: folklore

Sommatino is a small town of 6500 inhabitants in the province of Caltanissetta. It is thought that the name of the town derives from the Somma family who once owned most of the vineyards in the area. The country attracts several visitors every year intrigued by the interesting re-enactments in which the citizens participate. Among the most important we find that of the Ancient Crafts where bread and fresh ricotta are prepared and that of the Taverna where elderly customers sip wine and eat almonds. In the past, the economy of Sommatino was based on the extraction of sulfur but currently other companies are born such as the brand new brewery. The symbol of the city is the Liberty-style Civic Tower dating back to the mid-1800s. There are also several high-level accommodation facilities in the area. In addition to the ones already mentioned above, the re-enactments of Easter and of Tuppi Tuppi, which narrate the flight of the Holy Family into Egypt, are also very beautiful.
