Trekking to the Bolzano Refuge

(altopiano dello Sciliar)
Genre: nature   fun   useful information

From the Alpe di Siusi we set out from an altitude of 1400 with the aim of reaching the Bolzano Refuge, climbing up to 2400m! The day is sunny and a few clouds run in the cobalt blue sky, sliding their footprints on the grassy slopes. Grazing cows raise their noses, tinkling the cowbell a little out of curiosity, a little in greeting. A hut at the top of the slope indicates an altitude of 1853 m, the Saltner hut is only the first stop, around flowery meadows of many colors perfume the mountain breeze that relieves us from the commitment of the climb. You pass some snowfields, perched in shady areas, the road becomes more rocky inhabited only by a few tufts of grass and rare mountain pines. The panorama becomes wide and lets you see the Sasso Lungo, the Sella mountain group, the Sasso Piatto. Sections of steep ridge are secured with a fence and between the summit of Monte Pez and the pebbly valley we reach the refuge. From the terrace you can admire the Catinaccio, the Odle, the Torre del Violet, we want to climb to the summit at 2500 m where from the cross we feel on top of paradise.
