A city that owes its name to wine: Celle Enomondo

Where: celle-enomondo
(Celle Enomondo)
Genre: culture   wine and food

Celle Enomondo is located 10 kilometers from Asti, spreading out in a semicircle on a hill, 234 meters above sea level. In fact, from here you can enjoy a beautiful panoramic view, and numerous nature trails also branch off from the town. The gaze sweeps up to the Alps and the well-recognizable silhouette of the Monviso, as well as to all the neighboring municipalities. This was an area of ancient colonization, planted with vines since the time of the ancient Romans. However, the village experienced the greatest development during the nineteenth century, when various craft activities were started, as evidenced by the documents of the time. In 1854 the opening of the first tavern is attested, defined as an activity suitable for the sale of coffee, spirits and bottled wine. Wine is the true excellence of Celle, which owes its name Enomondo (attributed by a royal decree in 1863) to this drink. Enomondo comes from the Greek and means 'cellar of pure wine'. The wine par excellence of this territory is Barbera.
