The ancient traditions of Cercepiccola

Where: cercepiccola
(Cercepiccola)
Genre: culture

Cercepiccola is a small village located in the province of Campobasso, where many inhabitants have emigrated elsewhere in search of fortune. On the lookout point of the town there is in fact a commemorative bell that remembers all the people from Cercepiccolesi who have gone away, but it must also be said that they return often. This is because the locals are still very attached to the traditions of the past, such as the game of pezzotta. Pezzotta is a form of cheese that is rolled, and whoever arrives first wins. Even more suggestive and amazing is the Cercepiccola Carnival. On this occasion 32 richly dressed characters, almost all on horseback, interpret the months of the year. They act, sing and dance in a unique show in the world. The typical dishes of Cercepiccola are stuffed escarole and pizza and soup. In addition to the Carnival, another important holiday is that of the patron saint San Donato. The history of Cercepiccola is that of a feud passed from owner to owner up to the Carafa family, who built the Ducal Palace in 1571.
