Two fundamental stops in Agrigento: Scala dei Turchi and Valley of the Temples

Where: agrigento
(Valle dei Templi e Scala dei turchi)
Genre: culture   nature   fun

If you pass through Agrigento, a visit to two wonderful places is a must, one historical and the other natural: the Valley of the Temples and the Scala dei Turchi. The Valley of the Temples is an archaeological park that corresponds to the ancient Akragas, the original nucleus of the city of Agrigento. The site is very important especially for the state of conservation of some Doric temples of the Hellenic period, which allow an immersive visit into history. Since 1997 the site has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and excavations began around 1700. The Scala dei Turchi is a rocky wall that is located sheer above the sea on the coast of Realmonte. Its beauty and particularity is linked to the pure white color of the rocks and the name is linked to the fact that to get to the top you have to climb along the wall that seems to be made up of many steps. The beaches around are low and sandy. The place is therefore extremely suggestive also because from the top of the cliff you can admire a beautiful landscape that reaches up to Capo Rossello.
