Between nature and architectural beauties, a walk in Joppolo

Where: joppolo
(Joppolo)
Genre: useful information

Joppolo is a Calabrian town located in the province of Vibo Valentia and which extends for about 15 square kilometers. It has just over 2000 inhabitants and overlooks the sea, along the Costa degli Dei that goes from Zambrone to Nicotera. A short distance away, however, there is a hilly panorama, characterized by the presence of Monte Poro, inserted in the Mountain Community of Alto Mesima. The village stands on a tufaceous ridge and from the top of its typical streets you can admire a limpid and crystalline sea and abundant vegetation. Joppolo's origins are lost in legend: there are those who believe that he has monastic origins. The only certainty is that here, in the fourteenth century, a castle was built by Artemidoro Joppolo, from which the name of the village probably derives. A short distance from the historic center are Torre Parnaso, a bastion that was used for sighting of enemies built in the sixteenth century, and the Sanctuary of the Madonna del Carmine. The most important church in the town is the one dedicated to San Sisto, dating back to the late nineteenth century but built on an ancient monastery.
