(Nicosia)

In the center of the island and near the Natural Reserve of the Sanmbughetti and Campanito Mountains, there is the center of Byzantine origin. Conquered later by the Arabs and the Normans, Count Ruggero di Altavilla repopulated it with Lombard people, weaving the language with a Gallo-Italic dialect, still spoken by the elderly. The fortune of the town continues as a very constant civitas under the government of Frederick II of Swabia who adorns it with medieval art and constitutes a cultural center. Even in the Renaissance noble families built their homes here, helping to make this village particularly elegant. The Castle located on the promontory is of Byzantine foundation and Norman reconstruction. The access bridge, incredible for its beauty and architecture, is surrounded by pines, cacti and wild flowers according to an ancient symbiosis. From the curves of the ridge, which surround the watchtowers, you can enjoy an excellent view of the plain that extends up to the Etna volcano.
