Roccalbegna is a Tuscan town in the province of Grosseto; located 522 meters above sea level, it has about 1000 inhabitants and is 43 km from the capital. It is located in a particularly suggestive position, dominated by two steep and picturesque cliffs in which the remains of ancient fortifications are still found: the Aldobrandesca fortress or the stone on the highest cliff and the Sienese Cassaro on the lowest rocky outcrop. On the stone, which many times has aroused concern due to the risk of landslides, there are the few remains of the fortification built by the Aldobrandeschi family in the thirteenth century, from which you can enjoy an exceptional view of the underlying village of Roccalbegna. On the second cliff, the lowest, vice versa, there is a second fortification, the Sienese Cassaro where today there is a garden consisting of a large lawn and tall trees, but once there was a splendid Italian garden dating back to the seventeenth century. Siena in fact succeeded the Aldobrandeschi and exercised dominion over the village until the mid-sixteenth century.
