The picturesque Bocchigliero

Bocchigliero is a small village of 1786 inhabitants in the province of Cosenza. The town is famous for the aphorisms written on the plaques of the streets and squares. It is located within the Sila National Park, a short distance from the Ionian Sea, and is characterized by houses attached to each other typical of medieval villages. There are numerous religious buildings in the town such as the Church of Santa Maria located in Piazza del Popolo, the Church of San Rocco which overlooks a beautiful viewpoint and the Convent of the Reformed which is currently used as a retirement home. the Church of Santa Maria de Jesu. The latter houses a valuable fresco of the Deposition made by the artist Luca Giordano. Very beautiful is also the Church of San Leonardo dating back to around 1600 which houses two important modern icons depicting the Madonna and San Francesco. At one time the building also housed a wonderful statue of San Leonardo which is currently kept in the seventeenth-century Church of Santa Maria Assunta.
