The magical Trieste

Where: trieste
(Trieste)
Genre: culture

Trieste as well as being the capital of Friuli Venezia Giulia is a city rich in history and art. There are many buildings of great interest such as the Church of Sant'Antonio dating back to 1800 with its monumental columns in Greek style. Not far from here stands another imposing religious building: the Serbian-Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity and of San Spiridone with its characteristic blue domes. The heart of the city is Piazza Unità d'Italia which is one of the largest squares in Europe overlooking the sea. This place, with the architectural style of the buildings that surround it, is reminiscent in some ways of the Austrian capital Vienna. Moving away from the city center, you will find the magnificent Miramare Castle surrounded by a 22-hectare park. The castle overlooks the Gulf of Trieste and currently houses a museum. Among the most precious objects found inside there are oriental vases, furniture dating back to the nineteenth century and paintings made by the artist Cesare Dell'Acqua.
