(casteldaccia, Altavilla milicea)
Genre: culture   nature   wine and food   fun   folklore   useful information

The stage in Casteldaccia has an enogastronoimic character, here we can taste the best cannoli in Sicily, as it is a place where ricotta is traditionally processed. Excellent as a modern finger food, the cannoli is spiced with candied fruit, contamination of Arab origin. The town is home to the famous Corvo wines, an ancient winery that has been producing since 1824 according to a project by the Duke of Salaparuta. To get to Altavilla it is necessary to climb in altitude, being a hilly city. The commitment is rewarded by an excellent view from the belvedere on the islands, including Cefalù and Capo Zafferano. The nearby Marian Sanctuary of the seventeenth century is appreciable for the presence of the picture of the Madonna enthroned with baby Jesus. This work is attributed to a Tuscan artist of the 15th century. Legend has it that it reached the sanctuary by sea, transported by Saracen pirates who, unable to land in Capo Zafferano due to a storm, attributed the blame to the painting and hit it with their sabers, threw it into the sea.
