Trekking to the crags of the Valdarno

From the inhabited area, you walk along the via acqua zolfina and via delle moat in a circular route that leads us to know particular geological conformations. The first part of the route takes place in a dense forest of conifers and broad-leaved trees, where we descend to the source of sulphurous water. Climbing the path is sunny and runs through fields of forage or olive groves. The crags rise on the ridges, suggestive stratifications of deposits eroded by atmospheric agents. The sediments from the Apennines were deposited in a pre-existing lake. By decanting they stratified and then, exposed, they gave rise to the rare conformations. The hat conglomerate is solid and by retaining soil residues, it can become covered with vegetation. The gorse in bloom that surround them contrast with yellow, the typical red of the sands, pebbles and silts included. Going down through the Fossate, in a beautiful shady wood, we return to the village. Designed by the architect Arnolfo di Cambio we visit the Town Hall and the Porta Campana from the 14th century.
