The picturesque Castegnero

Where: castegnero
(Castegnero)
Genre: culture

Castegnero is a charming town of 2800 inhabitants in the province of Vicenza. The origin of its name is uncertain with some thinking it indicates a place rich in chestnuts while others claim that it derives from the presence of a fortification in ancient times. Place of great interest is the historic Villa Centrale with its characteristic tower. The structure has been restored over the years and currently houses the Costalunga farm. Very beautiful is also the Fountain of Castegnero whose water comes from a natural spring. In ancient times it was the wash house of the town but also a place where the inhabitants met and exchanged news. Interesting is the Villa Maffei inside which there is the Gentilizia Chapel dating back to 1652. Also worth a visit is the Church of Santa Maria also known as the Parish Church of Nanto dated 1297 which has elements consisting of a particular yellowish stone typical of this area and inside it houses important frescoes from the 1400s.
