Cravanzana the land of hazelnuts

Where: cravanzana
(Cravanzana)
Genre: culture   wine and food

In the province of Cuneo on the hills of the Alta Langa is the village of Cravanzana which extends over an uncontaminated land where the vineyard and the hazelnuts extend creating wonderful landscapes. In these valleys the hazelnut of the tonda gentile variety is born, which for its unique prerogatives in 2010 was recognized by the Brescia Taster Studies Center as the best in the world, beating the competitors of Lazio and Turkey. The love for this fruit meant that the citizens dedicated a statue to the fruit. The hazelnut is used in the processing of many products such as sweets and coffee. The Nocciola Point was established in Cravanzana, created to enhance the territory and the product, joined by the Association of Producers which aims to spread this hazelnut all over the world. The historic center of Cravanzana retains all the characteristics of an eighteenth-century village; the town developed around the castle of the Marquis Fontana. The castle was purchased in 1952 by the Ferrero family from Alba who transformed it into a summer residence for the children of the employees of the confectionery factory. Later it was bought by Guido Zerbetto, who renovated the entire building by equipping it with an ancient art collection. Next to the castle is the church dedicated to Saints Peter and Vitale built at the beginning of the seventeenth century, inside it preserves the richly frescoed vaults. The Confraternita dei Disciplined is a brick building with a double order of pilasters dating back to 1751, now used as a theater. There are numerous events taking place in the city, the most important being the hazelnut trail. A biennial event born in 2011 that consecrates the queen of hazelnuts.
