Volta Mantovana

Where: volta-mantovana
(Volta Mantovana)
Genre: culture   wine and food

Overlooking the Mincio Valley nestled between gentle morainic hills that surround Lake Garda is Volta Mantovana. The origins of the town are very ancient, along the course of the Mincio some archaeological finds from the prehistoric period have been found; even if the period that left its greatest beauty was the medieval one, it is in fact possible to admire the splendid castle of Matilde di Canossa still today. The castle is surrounded by the usual city walls, inside there is one of the symbols of the city the high bell tower. The church of San Pietro has three naves and presents the remains of the blessed Paola Montaldi, a work of ancient value is placed in the chapel. The Gonzaga Palace with its marvelous Italian gardens was built close to the surrounding walls. Today the building is the seat of the town hall; inside there is a permanent exhibition dedicated to conviviality in the Renaissance. The production of gastronomic excellence is the strongest link with tradition. Every year the national exhibition of dessert wines and meditation wines is organized. The area offers various activities and events throughout the year.
