Barga and its splendid Duomo

Where: barga
(Barga)
Genre: culture

Barga is a small town of 9600 inhabitants in the province of Lucca. It is considered one of the most beautiful villages in Italy thanks to the important buildings present in its territory. The city is accessed through the ancient Porta Mancianella. The main attraction is the Cathedral of San Cristoforo dating back to around the year 1000. The building is in Classical Romanesque style with the main entrance consisting of two marble columns surmounted by sculptures of lions. Inside, the pulpit, the main altar, the statue of San Cristoforo, the organ and the paintings representing sacred images are worthy of note. A structure that is certainly not very luxurious but equally very fascinating. The cathedral is located in a position from which you have a very suggestive view of the entire medieval village. It is also worth taking a walk through the streets of the town which, among gardens and parks, holds some curious surprises. One of these is a British telephone box left as a gift by Scottish tourists.
