Ceccano is a town in the province of Frosinone, in Lazio. The collegiate church dedicated to San Giovanni Battista is the main place of liturgical activity. Consecrated in 1767, the facade faces where the apse is now. Inside there are numerous art objects. The main altar preserves the artistic wooden choir together with the altarpiece depicting the martyrdom of St. John the Baptist to be attributed to Signorelli. On the right altar there is the tomb of Cardinal Gizzi buried in 1992. In the sacristy it is possible to admire the cycle of medieval frescoes from the 12th century. The church of San Nicola is in Gothic-Romanesque style, in the columns you can read inscriptions in Lombard style that attest to the name of the count who commissioned them and the date of the work. Inside there is an 18th century fresco of the Addolorata. The 'ex-Cinema Italia' auditorium is managed by the IndieGesta association which has transformed it into a real workshop of the arts. The Castello dei Conti dominates the Sacco Valley. In the Middle Ages the castle became the center of the county of the Counts of Ceccano. In the following centuries I become the prison. At the end of the 90s the castle was purchased by the municipality and entrusted to the Cultural Association Cultores Artium which opened it to the public for guided tours. Castel Sindici was built in neo-Gothic style with local stone at the behest of the oenologist Sacconi. In the basement rooms you can still see the ancient ceramic barrels where Castel Sindici wine was produced. The upper floors were the parlor where the wealthy family hosted illustrious artists. Currently it is not possible to visit the interiors but only the surrounding park. The typical dishes of Ceccano are: carbonara, artichoke hearts with marjoram, fried mozzarella, penne all'arrabbiata, typical salami from ciociaria, tripe alla romana and fettuccine alla papalina. In the archaeological site of Villa romana, remains of an ancient large Roman patrician villa and a stone conduit that served as an aqueduct were found during the works of the TAV.
