The Gulf of Poets seen from the sea

(Golfo dei Poeti)
Genre: nature   useful information

The best way to visit the Gulf of Poets is by sea, using one of the means available to take a tour of the various villages of this renowned part of Liguria. The Gulf of Poets owes its vulgar name to the fact that many artists and writers stayed here, attracted by the beauty of the landscape. Taking a boat tour usually starts from La Spezia, a center known for the presence of a military base even wanted by Cavour. From here we leave towards the village of Lerici, ancient Erice, where the castle overlooking the sea attracts the gaze of visitors. Then continue to Porto Venere, a town where the most important buildings are the Doria castle and the church of San Pietro. The Gulf of Poets is the gateway to the Cinque Terre, which can also be easily visited by sea. From Levanto, an important tourist center whose terraces have been declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco, you can visit the villages of Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and finally Riomaggiore.
