Dante's places in Ravenna

(Ravenna)
Genre: culture   useful information

Ravenna visited in 2021, on the occasion of the 700th anniversary of the death of Dante Alighieri, presents many unpublished views. Going to Piazza San Francesco, where the tourist office is located, you can have headphones for a guided tour of Dante's places in Ravenna. It begins with the Mosaic Museum, where Dante's stories are depicted, and then continues at the Classense Library where the works of the Supreme Poet are kept. The splendid Basilica of San Francesco is also a Dante's place: in fact, the funeral of Alighieri, who was Florentine but died in Ravenna, was celebrated here. His monumental tomb, however, was only built in the 1700s, given the daring vicissitudes crossed by his remains. A truly unique experience, because it is completely immersive, is the one offered by the Dante Museum, where you can listen to songs from the Divine Comedy. Finally, while visiting Ravenna, some of its most famous monuments cannot be overlooked: Sant'Apollinare in Classe and Sant'Apollinare Nuovo always amaze for their splendid mosaics.
