Palma Campania is a town in the east of the Neapolitan hinterland. The town is located at the foot of Mount Sant'Angelo surrounded by the Lagno di Moschiano and Lagno di Somma streams. One of the hamlets of the town is Borgo Castello or Castello di Palma, a small village perched on the mountains that overlooks the Palmese countryside and offers a breathtaking view that reaches the island of Capri. The name is linked to the ancient castle of Lombard origin of which today only a facade remains. The castle was built for defensive purposes, the geographical position was able to dominate the entire valley of the Sannio. Getting to the village today is possible thanks to the rolling stock, one of the most evocative scenic routes in the region. It is a village that has about 250 inhabitants, made of white stone and narrow streets. The local economy is based on agriculture and the typical products are plums and apricots. The churches of San Michele Arcangelo are worth a visit, and the Church of Santa Maria a Miano, near the inhabited area, both abandoned for years, are still a destination for pilgrimages and vows. Also in the inhabited area we find the church of San Giovanni Battista, consecrated and in use. Last visit, but not least, to the house museum of the painter Pietro Salvatore Caniello, one of the most famous Neapolitan artists in the panorama of portrait painters, some of which are kept in the church of Giovanni Battista.
