Monticiano is a village located on the Sienese Metalliferous Hills, on the right side of the Merse river. From a tourist point of view it is a much loved place for its natural landscapes, in fact there are several nature reserves in the area: the nature reserve of the Val di Merse and that of the Val di Farma. What led to the expansion and enrichment of the town is the presence of iron. The mining activity gave rise to the birth of villages, houses, palaces and churches. The village still retains the medieval walls, and the streets still have that ancient charm. As well as the palaces with typically medieval stone facades. Among the most important places of worship the Church of Saints Giusto and Clemente, in Tuscan Romanesque style, the Church of Beato Antonio Patrizi, flanked by the cloister of the convent of the Augustinian friars. In the woods of Monticiano it is possible to visit a place of pilgrimage and events, the hermitage of San Pietro a Rondinaia, which stands on the Camerata hill. A procession is held here every year at Easter, which mixes religious and pagan rituals. The role of nature and life in communion with it are told in the biodiversity museum. An immersive educational museum, which uses technology to teach and intrigue.
