(Monteriggioni)
Genre: culture   nature

Monteriggioni is a medieval Tuscan village, in the province of Siena; located at an altitude of 274 meters, it has 8,500 inhabitants. Characterized by a breathtaking landscape, immersed in a generous and uncontaminated nature, Monteriggioni is immersed in the Valle d'Elsa, among the gentle Sienese hills. With a fully medieval and strongly reminiscent image, it is a fortified site that keeps the ancient walls practically intact, a Sienese outpost against the Florentines. The walls represent a typical example of medieval architecture. Today there are two sections, called walkways, which can be traveled through from which the views that open up to the view are spectacular and unforgettable. Built in the thirteenth century, they have a development of 570 meters and are equipped with 14 towers. Immortalized by Dante, Monteriggioni boasts a beautiful museum of the Middle Ages, full of fascinating and valuable pieces, among all, faithful reproductions of armor of the time. Lastly we leave the Pieve di Santa Maria Assunta, overlooking the main square, also a building with marked medieval architectural features.
