Travel in Green between Siena and Florence

(via Romea Sanese)
Genre: culture   nature   wine and food   fun   useful information

Traveling the ancient road between the lords of Siena and Florence means living immersed in a territory made of history and viticulture. In the 27 km of the Via Romea Sanese you touch medieval villages in the hills of the classic Chianti Gallo Nero. We are therefore in the heart of Chianti and, walking in groves, between streams and in the dirt roads among the lush vineyards, we visit the villages of Monsanese, Fonterutoli to Castellina in Chianti. On the way we pass the Confino Cross between the lordships and get to know Fonterutoli in a profound way, visiting the artisan shops where wooden artefacts are worked. The Church of San Miniato and the Castle, around which the Mazzei family produces a famous wine, deserve a stop. At sunset the road arrives at the vaults of Castellina, which flank the historic town with a stone gallery. From the loopholes you can admire views of the hills below, crossed by the foliage of the rows. It is time to taste the good Castellinese cuisine and why not, another glass of wine.
