Madesimo: a paradise for mountain and sports lovers

Madesimo is a municipality located in the suggestive Spluga Valley, in the Valchiavenna area, known and popular above all for winter tourism for the possibility of practicing the typical mountain sports: classic skiing, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling and snow kiting. The activities are very varied and are aimed at both families with children and beginners, as well as that slice of sports tourists who love the mountains for special experiences such as climbing or canyoning. Among the many paths, the one that leads to the blue lake remains very well-known, an Alpine body of water that offers a graceful and quiet landscape. Much appreciated route especially in the summer season, when Madesimo, even in the absence of snow, becomes a popular destination for those who love nature, outdoor walks and the typical gastronomy of the area. For some years now, alongside snow-related activities, a network of cycle paths has been developed that cross the mountain landscape, offering enthusiasts unique routes. Madesimo, together with other municipalities of Valchiavenna, create a fabric to offer tourists a unique and varied offer. In addition to sport and the mountains, also culture, gastronomy, and unique natural landscapes such as: the waterfalls, which are located in the hamlet of Pianazzo, the lake of Isola, located in the hamlet of the same name, the Canalone, that is an off-piste skiing considered one of the slopes most beautiful and demanding of the Alps, the Vezzola lake, famous for rowing. Typical of Valchiavenna are also the 'crotti', natural cavities that arose inside the remains of ancient landslides where a cold current of air that comes from the bowels of the mountains constantly blows, which remains at a constant temperature of about 8 degrees Celsius, constituting a ideal environment for wine maturation and cured meats.
