Where: marzabotto
(Marzabotto)
Genre: culture   nature   useful information

In Marzabotto, in the province of Bologna, a town known above all for the massacre that took place during the Second World War, there is an ancient Etruscan city of inestimable archaeological value: Kainua. Inhabited between the end of the sixth and the middle of the fourth century BC. C, was a city of great importance, overlooking the Rhine River. The waterway was an important communication route, so the city played a key role in trade. The conservation of the site, which allows an interesting and unique study, is linked to the fact that after about 2 centuries the Etruscans left the city to move elsewhere. The city was therefore left to itself, and has been preserved over time as faithful to the origin as possible. The town can be visited within the area of the Etruscan Museum, named after Pompeo Aria, the first to organize the research and cataloging of the finds. In the gate that marks the entrance to Villa Aria, a nineteenth-century park where excavations began, there is the northern necropolis which has about two hundred tombs divided into two groups. In the park it is also possible to observe the English garden with caves, ponds and bridges. In addition of course to the visit inside the Museum, where you can observe the artifacts found during the excavations.
