Things to do in Italy > Capraia Island

Go to the Island of Capraia

Where: capraia-isola
(Isola di Capraia)
Genre: culture   nature

Our tour to the island of Capraia, the smallest town on the border of Tuscany, starts from the Torre del Porto, one of the three towers of the island, built in 1500 used to defend against raids, today transformed into a beautiful library. The next stop is the Convent of Sant'Antonio and the Franciscan Cloister from the 1600s. We continue with a boat ride to Cala Rossa where we can breathe the true identity of the island; we are in fact inside the cone of the volcano that created Capraia. The Island of Capraia is also chosen every year by many young people who decide to return and settle on the island to cultivate their dreams or devote themselves to agriculture and fishing; as did Tiberio Guarente, a former Sevilla player, who moved his life to the island after an injury. Following your dreams in Capraia is possible; like the three partners who have dedicated themselves to bringing the goats back to the island, founding a small company with award-winning cheese, or like two young spouses who have started their viticulture project to recover the ancient penal colony.
