Cancello and Arnone

Within a fertile Campania rises Cancello and Arnone, whose inhabited area was razed to the ground by the earthquake of 1943 and subsequently rebuilt in its entirety. In the church Maria Regina di tutti i Santi there are works of important value such as the statue of the Madonna delle Grazie, towards which the citizens feel an immense affection so much that a small chapel is dedicated to her, inside which there is a painting from 1737. Inside the church there is a mural painting of the Deposition of 1954, the oil painting of the coronation of the Virgin and the line statue of Saint Lucia from 1748. The church Maria Santissima Assunta in Cielo is the reference point of the community and preserves the wooden statue of the patron with his relic. Of particular value is the high altar where there are two paintings depicting San Biagio and San Luigi IX. The river that splits Cancello and Arnone in two preserves an important history and is still a source of income and tradition today. The Volturno junctions have allowed the proliferation of a perfect habitat for the growth of buffaloes; the numerous marshes left by the river allow the buffaloes to find refreshment in the water and mud. Over the years, numerous farms have been created in the area dedicated to the processing of buffalo milk and the production of the much-loved buffalo mozzarella, stracchino, cream, ricotta and fresh cheeses. The processing of the mozzarella begins in the morning with the processing of the milk, subsequently the dough is formed which is stored in brine and finally it is moved to packaging. A party is dedicated to the mozzarella from Cancello and Arnone; the mozzarella festival that has been held every year for more than 40 years and is the main event in the city. At the party there are several stands of mozzarella, buffalo meat up to organic cosmetic products. The event is attended by several guests including singers and entertainers.
