(Imer)
Genre: culture   nature

Imer is a municipality located at the eastern end of the province of Trento, in Trentino; at an altitude of 670 meters, it has 1,200 inhabitants and is the gateway to the Primiero valley. Dominated by the small but delightful church of San Silvestro which stands on a spur of Mount Totoga. The valley where Imer rises is encircled by the Dolomites, a UNESCO heritage site. The discovery of a Lombard burial confirms that it was already inhabited in the 6th century, although the first official written documents date back to the 13th century. Its history is largely linked to the Hapsburg Empire until the First World War, where it was massively involved in the war front. In fact, as places of memory that can be visited, there are many stoles, that is military galleries, scattered throughout the territory. Imer has rural origins and expanded around its parish church consecrated in 1526, dedicated to Saints Peter and Paul. Blessed Sister Maria Serafina of the Sacred Heart was born in Imer in 1849. The sacred theme is always alive in Imer, from the capitals placed at the crossroads of the streets to the mural frescoes, true street furniture. Artistic initiatives involved the creation of artistic benches and the street varc, that is, the painting of the walls of the passages, ancient sheds for hay. Art and nature come together in Imer, today also accompanied by a strong tourist vocation.
