Trip to Castello, a hamlet of Valsolda

From Lake Lugano you can reach Castello on foot, along a mule track that enters the village in tunnels or small tunnels. You can clearly see the conical structure of the village which, surrounded by a wooded environment, constitutes a corner of peace. The alleys of the village are surrounded by houses that are stately and of character. In fact, the Borgo gave birth to architects and sculptors, Fontana and Merlini, who later worked in Europe. If you are good at finding the 16th century Church of San Martino, located at the top of the village, you will find a 'little Sistine'. The frescoes on the vaulted ceiling by Pagani are meticulous and colorful. The road that runs along the walls offers an amazing panorama of the lake and winds with other panoramic paths of Valsolda. In the book 'Piccolo mondo antico', Fogazzaro described these places, in fact his villa is located not far from Castello and can be visited. We understand why the tourist cannot stop enthusiastically commenting on the Castello environment.
