The wonderful Ferrara

Where: ferrara
(Ferrara)
Genre: culture

Ferrara is a city in Emilia Romagna that offers various places of interest for tourists. One of these is Piazza Ariostea with its particular oval shape. It was built in 1499 by the architect Biagio Rossetti and takes its name from Ludovico Ariosto, the author of the poem L'Orlando Furioso. Another very beautiful place is the Rotonda Foschini which is an oval courtyard where in the evening with its lights a very suggestive atmosphere is created. A few steps from here is the magnificent Estense Castle built by the Marquis Niccolò II d'Este. Initially used for military purposes, it then became the residence of the Este court until it became a museum today. Not far away you arrive at Piazza Savonarola which takes the name of a preacher who prophesies misfortunes for the city of Florence and all of Italy. For this reason he was hanged and burned alive. Of great artistic value is the Cathedral of San Giorgio with its marble facade embellished with statues and bas-reliefs, in particular that of the Last Judgment. Also worth a visit is the ancient osteria Al Brindisi which dates back to 1435 and which still today is an important meeting point where you can taste typical dishes of the Ferrara tradition. Palazzo dei Diamanti is located in via Ercole I d'Este, so called for the shapes that the more than 8500 marble blocks of its facades assume. Inside are the art gallery and temporary art exhibitions. Finally, to do absolutely is a walk on the Walls of Ferrara.
