Ancient imperial village located on the Via Flaminia, in the province of Pesaro Urbino is the municipality of Fossombrone. Corso Garibaldi is the main street of the town, where the historic center and commercial activities develop. The street is flanked by the so-called 'loggias', a series of arcades divided between those of the poor and those of the rich and dating back to after the year one thousand, suitable for the arrangement of the shops in what was the commercial street. The church of San Filippo, in the historic center, is one of the most important monuments. Sumptuously decorated in Baroque style on the inside, it has an unfinished facade. Climbing the picturesque stairs you can reach the Corte Alta, a building, the ducal palace of the municipality, which today houses the art gallery and an archaeological museum founded by Augusto Vernarecci, a local scholar. Remaining on the historical theme, it is possible to visit the Forum Sempronii archaeological park, with Roman remains of the ancient town. Another museum stop is the Cesarini House Museum, located in the sixteenth-century Pergamino palace. Cesarini was an art collector mainly of the twentieth century. He decided upon his death to leave everything to the municipality of Fossombrone, with the request to build a museum. Inside there are about twenty exhibition rooms dedicated to ancient and contemporary art.
