Comacchio, 'The Little Venice'

Where: comacchio
(Comacchio)
Genre: events    culture

Comacchio is an Italian town of about 21,000 inhabitants in the province of Ferrara, in Emilia Romagna. It is part of the Po Delta area, in fact it was born as a lagoon city until the time when the road embankment was built, which connected it to other towns. The origin of its name is uncertain, but it is thought that 'Comacchio' derives from an Etruscan term that meant 'grouping of bumps', in fact it is to the Etruscan people that the foundation of this municipality is attributed. One of its main attractions, also visible in the video, is the Ancient Delta Museum, an archaeological museum located in the center of the city and set up in the former Hospital of the Sick, a neoclassical structure from the 1700s. This museum contains about 2000 artifacts belonging to different eras historical, mainly from the Roman age (such as the cargo of a commercial ship re-emerged in 1981), and from the Etruscan age, therefore from the Bronze Age. In particular, it narrates the historical, geographical and environmental changes of the Po Delta area, such as the formation of the Po valley up to the present day.
