The ancient center of Montesilvano extends between the Abruzzo hills and the beaches of the Pescara coast. Defined as the 'city of waters' due to its position between the sea, the river and the water sources, it owes its tourist turnout to this strategic position. The village of Montesilvano extends on a hill from which it is possible to admire a beautiful view from the mountains to the sea. The Villa Carmine district, formerly a small village, housed a pagan temple in honor of Jupiter, later in Roman times a church was built in honor of the Madonna del Carmelo, patron saint of travelers; Legend has it that the Madonna appeared to the survivors of a war near the city of Sant'Angelo, an inscription was placed in memory of this. Inside the church there are valuable works such as the painting of a black Madonna and a granite stoup with the image of Christ. Thanks to the presence of the salt pans, the city became a territory of considerable importance during the Roman era, the traces of this ancient and precious past are visible in the new urban center and in the splendid olive trees. The cycle path that runs along the coast is part of the Via Adriatica cycle project which aims to connect the entire coast to ensure green mobility in all seasons. Montesilvano is renowned for being the holiday destination suitable for all budgets, thanks to the variety of hotels, B & Bs, holiday homes and much more; tourism is very important for the city, which is why it is committed to guaranteeing tourism accessible to all, including disabled people and families. The former colony building Villa Maris hosted many children until the 1960s, now the building is being restored to create a recreational center. The hill of the city is the heart of spirituality and the seat of the oldest church; the church has a central nave and is dedicated to San Michele Arcangelo placed to protect the salt road. Outside the inhabited center stands the Roman-style church of the Madonna della Neve dating back to the thirteenth century on the occasion of the passage of the Saint, restored in 2008 both inside and outside it consists of a single nave, preserves frescoes such as that of the avenging Christ. Outside the church is the statue of the Madonna who, according to legend, appeared in sleep to a Roman nobleman, indicating where to build his church. In honor of the Madonna, a feast is celebrated with a procession that starts from the ancient village bringing the statue back to the ancient church of San Michele in front of which the prodigious snowfall is remembered. La Colonetta is located between via dei Piceni and via Don Agostinone placed as a symbol of the son of Count Longano and where Vittorio Emanuele II stopped in 1860 before going to Pescara. The cuisine is based on the typical resources of the area, such as: anchovies all'ortonese, grilled cod with peppers, garlic butter, neretese goat and kebabs. Typical dessert are the amaretti and the sweet of the hill made up of jam, pine nuts and licorice. The village houses an art workshop where some of the works of Ferdinando Gannelli, an important interpreter of Italian sculpture of the twentieth century, are found. The conference center is the flagship of the city has a hall of 3000 seats and 16 rooms is in fact the largest pole in central and southern Italy. From Montesilvano you can reach the large green areas of Abruzzo but also the Pineta di Santa Filomena nature reserve.
