Discover Brunico

Where: brunico/bruneck
(Brunico)
Genre: culture   nature

Brunico is the most important center of the Val Pusteria; we are in Trentino Alto Adige, in the province of Bolzano. Brunico stands at 838 meters above sea level and has 17,000 inhabitants. The best way to start your visit is to go to the 2275 meters of Plan De Corones, via a comfortable ski lift. From here you can dominate the entire valley, Brunico, and in the background you can clearly see the Alpine peaks on the border with Austria on one side, while on the other the Dolomite peaks. The heating system is clearly distinguished, which through the use of wood chips and biomass guarantees green thermal energy to the city of Brunico. Also here is the mountaineering museum, commissioned by Messner, on the traditions of high mountain life. Brunico is the historical, cultural and economic center of the entire Val Pusteria and offers a wide range of monuments and art. Let's start the visit from the churches of Santa Caterina, delle Ursoline and Maria Assunta which contain the largest organ in the whole region. We then move on to visits to the various doors that allowed access to the city core. Porta delle Orsoline, Porta Rienza and Porta Bruno, in honor of the German bishop Bruno, founder of Brunico in 1200. The castle of the Princes Bishops dominates the inhabited area from above, an outpost defending the entire valley, built around 1250. Today it houses a museum dedicated to Messner.
