The Path of the Fairies in Gallo Matese

Where: gallo-matese
(Sentiero delle Fate)
Genre: culture   nature   useful information

Gallo Matese is a town of just over 500 inhabitants in the province of Caserta, in Campania. This town is located on the border between Campania and Molise and stands on a hill in the center of a valley partly occupied by a lake: these characteristics make it part of the Matese Regional Park. What unites Gallo Matese to many small villages is the presence of the great Matese Massif, between Molise and Campania. Among the most beautiful and characteristic places of this area, it is worth mentioning the so-called 'Path of the Fairies', a five-kilometer path full of charm and immersed in unspoiled nature. The dense presence of large trees creates a dreamlike, almost magical sensation, which gives way to rays of light that are reflected on the rocky path and opens onto a steady climb. As suggestive as the rocky aspect of the path may be, it is necessary to pay close attention during the walk, as its bumpy and bumpy structure may require some care, such as the use of specific technical shoes. It is one of the pearls of Matese and deserves to be visited, preferably in spring, when the flowering makes the path unique.
