Barberino del Mugello

We are on the mountain border with Emilia Romagna, immersed in the Mugello valley, above Florence, where the wonderful Bilancino lake extends. The basin gives a special charm to the valley, the green of the woods, the yellow of the cultivated fields and the turquoise of the lake capture the visitor's gaze, enraptured by a synaesthetic ecstasy. One of the characteristics of the municipality is precisely the artificial reservoir, which offers a great tourist development, in addition to bathing and sport fishing, it is possible to dedicate oneself to canoeing, sailing and windsurfing. A few kilometers away, there is the pretty village of Barberino del Mugello, land of the Medici, of villas and churches. It represents the entrance door to the area. After the dominion of the Ligurians, the Etruscans, the Romans and the Lombards, it passed under the powerful Ubaldini family until the end of the 4th century. From the following century it passed under the dominion of the Medici, who even could have originated right there, as Carbonari, until one of them became a doctor giving the name and coat of arms to the family.
