Castiglione del Lago

We are located in Umbria, in the province of Perugia, here we find a beautiful village in the area of Lake Trasimeno, Castiglione del Lago. Of considerable artistic, environmental and cultural heritage, it is a small urban center of Etruscan origin located on a hill. In the Middle Ages it became a fortified village with the construction of its castle. The historic center is a real gem, surrounded by walls with three main gates. The Rocca del Leone, was built in 1247, has an irregular pentagonal shape and has five towers, one of which 30 meters high is triangular in shape, overlooking the lake. The Palazzo della Corgna, from 1560, with rooms frescoed by Pomarancio, with mythological scenes, prestigious examples of the regional painting. Today these rooms host temporary exhibitions of modern and contemporary art and some Etruscan remains. The Church of San Domenico, built in the Baroque period in 1638, is also worth visiting because it is rich in frescoes. Furthermore, on the lakefront it is possible to spend days on equipped beaches, practice outdoor sports, go trekking and cycling, or, in summer, you can enjoy the open-air cinema right inside the fortress of the lion.
